Grain Storage Protector

It has been estimated that up to 50% of all the grain grown is potentially damaged by insects. 

Chemical poisons as we continue to discover often do more harm than good.  They must be applied repeatedly, resulting in the build of up potentially harmful residue.  They also may loose their effectiveness over time as insects can build up immunity to the chemicals.  This creates a dangerous trend of using more chemicals or different chemicals thus putting more pressures on our environment and health - already in excess of our overdraft with too many toxins abound.

Food grade Diatomaceous Earth has great potential as a grain protector.  It is non-toxic, provides good protection when grain is stored properly, can be easily separated later if desired and leaves no residue.  Of course it need not be removed and can be left in, potentially providing additional spin off benefits to the ultimate use of the stored grain.   Since it is food grade it will have no impact on taste of cooking quality and provides for 15 trace minerals as well.

Total lack of toxicity in food grade Diatomaceous Earth is so un-measurable it is not counted as a foreign substance by the USDA in their grain rating system.   Perma-Guard’s Fossil Shell Flour has also been assessed at GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) status with the US FDA and the NZFSA in New Zealand.

Trials of stored grain assessed at 6mths, 12mths and 18mths of storage showed that Fossil Shell Flour out-performed traditional grain storage chemicals in each test.  

Not only will DE kill insects on contact, it also acts as a repellent discouraging insect infestation in the first instance.  Chemical treatment methods kill insects which leaves dead bugs as well as toxins present in the stored grain – at considerably higher numbers than had DE been applied.

Combined with its non-existent toxicity, improved flow control through its anti-caking properties it certainly provides for a superior alternative to traditional grain storage methods.

Simply remove 2% of stored grain, replace with DE and blend.
