Using DE has been easier and less hassle than using fly spray.

10 February 2015

This summer our house was inundated with flies. With a toddler on the loose I hated the thought of her breathing and rolling around in all the chemicals used in fly sprays and other fly control products. Occasionally when we did use spray, the flies would be back in full force the next day anyway - we didn't even make a dent in the fly population.

After some research we tried DE. We sprinkled it regularly in/on/around the compost and rubbish bins we thought the flies were breeding in, as well as on our kitchen bench or a dirty plate at night. It took 2-3 weeks to properly interrupt their breeding patterns, but after 3 weeks of using DE the number of flies in our house has dramatically decreased.

We've gone from several hundred to fewer than 30 flies in our house at any given time.

Using DE has been easier and less hassle than using fly spray, has given more lasting results, has the added benefit of adding nutrients to our compost, and most of all is not harmful to my family.

Mum turns up for a walk and witnesses the Diva running around the back yard like a fruit loop and thinks she is a pup again! She looked at me and asked "what the hell has gone on here?" I just laughed and told her the story...

A few weeks back my Mum was over to help me take the fur kids for a walk and the subject arose of come Christmas time I would need to re-evaluate Daisy and possibly consider doing the right thing by her and putting her to sleep. She was getting slower and slower and grumpier and could only handle a once a week walk and even then, there had been a number of times where I thought she actually wasn't going to make it back to the car. This girl has given me so much, I certainly do not want to see her suffer at all.

I had tried her on a multitude of different things, but in the end you can only delay old age setting in for so long with large breed dogs.

Meanwhile a friend was trying to force upon me some stuff called DE. I thought yeah, whatever, yet another gimmick product that will probably cost a small fortune and won't work. So anyway she put some in a bag which I duly threw in the cupboard. A little time later I cleaned the cupboard out and found it and rather than throw it out I thought I may as well give it to the dogs and see what it does, if anything.

Two weeks pass. Mum turns up for a walk and witnesses the Diva running around the back yard like a fruit loop, and thinks she is a pup again! She looked at me and asked "what the hell has gone on here?" I just laughed and told her the story.

So, let's just say there will be no more talking about PTS. She is happier, fitter and a lot more dam active. She trots around on our walks now pulling Mum along to hurry her up as the Diva wants to keep up with the other two younger dogs and is able to now.

The difference really has been absolutely amazing and if someone told me about this and what it could do for older dogs I would have laughed in their face.

This spring has been fantastic with fruit and just look at the new fruit that is going to keep coming throughout the summer. The Lemon tree has never looked so healthy and bug free, the leaves are clean, bright and no pests. I don’t have to worry about a withholding period for eating the delicious fruits.

Last year I started using the DE on the Lemon, Orange and Mandarin trees. I was using DE in the 5L sprayer as a bug, disease maintenance and also a fertilizer. The trees were riddled with Sooty Mould which lives off sugar secreted by scale or aphids (which I had both) and it also attracts ants. The trees also had leaf curling and would lose their leaves.

I used DE in the sprayer once every two months in the beginning as the DE would stick to the leaves so I found I didn’t have to use it as regular to keep up maintenance. If the DE was washed off into the soil I didn’t have to worry about that as I knew the soil was getting nutrients from the De therefore feeding the tree. But I found that the DE stuck to the leaves so it kept doing its job even after rain.

The trees look completely different to this time last year and I wish I had taken a before photo for you.

We live on a five acre lifestyle lot in the South Waikato and really enjoy the variety of animals that we keep.

Last year, we were introduced to Diatomaceous Earth and it has been all that I had hoped for. The changes it has made to all our animals and ourselves has been very pronounced.

This summer has been the best as far as flies are concerned and we put this down to DE, almost exclusively. We have found that giving the window ledges, inside our home, a light dusting with DE it is not too unsightly and is a very effective method of controlling flies that are in the house. They only have to touch the powder and they seem to die quite quickly. Not immediately, of course, but it is never long before we are not bothered with them flying around and it's much less trouble for us to vacuum their desiccated bodies, usually the next morning, instead of spraying chemical fly killer around the house every few minutes.

In my garden, DE certainly kept the cabbage whites off the brassicas and was very effective on the roses to rid them of the aphids, although in that case, I was careful to dust the roses in the evening, after the bees had finished their daily chores.

These last few months have been a revelation to me on the effectiveness of DE, across the board with the general health of all my animals benefiting measurably. I have also been able to dramatically reduce the amount of chemicals, normally introduced to my animals and, together with the financial savings this has given me, I am very happy to recommend DE for all its uses.

My egg production increased from barely getting a dozen eggs a day, to getting either 22 or 24 eggs a day.

24 November 2012

Good Morning

I wanted to take this opportunity to express my complete satisfaction and total success I have had with your product Diatomaceous Earth. It is everything and more than you have said it would be.

I have been using it for my chickens and dogs. I have 26 free ranging hens and each morning I have mixed 1 heaped tablespoon of DE through their wheat pellets, also sprinkling some over their greens. I was totally amazed at the difference I saw just within a week of using it. My egg production increased from barely getting a dozen eggs a day, to getting either 22 or 24 eggs a day.

My next step is to use it next year when I raise calves and I am looking forward to seeing how much healthier my calves are.

I thank you so much for making this product available and I am looking forward to using it in my vege garden and around my home as I try to be as organic and eco friendly as possible. It appears Diatomaceous Earth is the product that will make my life so much easier and healthier. Thank you so much. I will certainly continue to recommend DE to all and everyone I come across.

Yours faithfully,

Fenix, our 30 year old plus horse was looking pretty rundown/old and seemed like she was on her last days really. We decided to use DE in her daily feed and the results are absolutely fabulous. She looks great! In 1 - 2 weeks she has put on weight, her hooves are strong and healthy, her coat is shiny and her energy levels are well up. She looks amazing.

We at Whangarei Riding for the Disabled have been using Diatomaceous Earth for the prevention of head lice.

We at Whangarei Riding for the Disabled have been using Diatomaceous Earth for the prevention of head lice.

We have 92 riders over a 4 day week for riding sessions and they all use the same helmets and boots. The problem of head lice with this number of riders has been a hard one to solve, and all the available chemical products are very expensive.

We were asked to trial this product for the whole of Term 2. We have used a sprinkler to cover the inside of the helmets and boots and there has been an amazing result... NO headlice or smelly boots right from the start. We have found that only a small amount is required each time, so is very cost effective.

We are very impressed with this product and will certainly keep purchasing the product in the future.

I have recommended this product to several other RDA's around NZ.
